Welcome

The Ottawa Jewish Historical Society is a local cultural charitable organization that helps to support the Ottawa Jewish Archives, which is housed in the Joseph and Rose Ages Building of the Soloway Jewish Community Centre. The Society sponsors public lectures on topics of local Jewish historical interest. The Society also sponsors scholarships at the University of Ottawa for students who wish to write papers on topics of historical interest to the Jewish community of Ottawa. The Ottawa Jewish Historical Society is an affiliate of the Association of Canadian Jewish Studies.

HOT OFF THE PRESS!
The Society has published an illustrated, book-length history of the Ottawa Jewish community entitled A Common Thread: A History of the Jews of Ottawa. This book is also distributed to each Bar and Bat Mitzvah celebrant in Ottawa congregations. Information on ordering a copy can be found under the 'Programs' tab on this web site. The Society has also been instrumental in distributing "There I Was", a book featuring personal reminiscences of veterans of World War II produced by the Ottawa Post of the Jewish War Veterans in collaboration with the Ottawa Jewish Historical Society.
